In-building Radio Design Engineer

General Duties

The position of in-building Radio Design Engineer will encompass all duties that will be given by your line manager. These will include all duties that are of an Engineering nature.

Reporting to                          Field Operations Manager

Principal Duties

 

  1. Carry out all aspects of indoor radio design and survey work which will include:
    • Liaising with clients regarding objectives and timescales
    • Being the client’s interface with third parties
    • Data collection for all aspects of Red-M radio survey work
    • Understanding the effects radio propagation with a particular focus on the indoor environment
    • Detailed understanding of build requirements and the impact radio solutions have on costs
    • Assist in the development / streamlining of Design and Survey methodologies including those dealing with new technologies
    • Adhere to health and safety requirements at all times

 

  1. Reporting to the client which will involve:
    • Post-Processing and detailed analysis of collected data.
    • Collation of all relevant information and forms including H&S documents
    • Generation of Survey / Design reports and other relevant technical documentation
    • Making presentations and attending meetings of a technical nature
    • Reporting to Clients on a technical basis where applicable
    • Delivery of collected data in a limited time period

 

  1. Other responsibilities will include:
    • Time management of yourself, and where appropriate, of any subordinate
    • Management of survey equipment requirements
    • Keeping up to date with all advancements in the indoor radio environment with particular emphasis on new types of survey equipment and new indoor/outdoor coverage systems
    • Timely return of all RF equipment that may be due for calibration or replacement
    • Making Red-M management aware of own training requirements outside of Red-M normal training
    • Preparation of suitable RF equipment including validation for survey works
    • Assist more junior staff within the department
    • Occasional assistance to other departments as required
    • Updating any Red-M internal reporting system as required
    • To carry out duties overseas as reasonably required by the Company.
    • To provide maintenance support as part of an in and out of hours rota

 

Person Specification

  1.  
    • Qualifications of an RF/Technical nature are required for this post, so candidates should have a relevant first degree or equivalent
  • A sound understanding of the practical and theoretical aspects of Radio Systems and Designs
  • Experience of Radio System / Equipment design and installation would be beneficial
  • Knowledge of the following particular Radio technologies: TETRA, GSM, UMTS, W-LAN, WiMAX
  • Experience of the indoor radio environment and associated antenna system design process
  • Clean Driving Licence with the ability to keep vehicles clean and tidy
  • A genuine interest in the science of Radio and Electronics
  • Must be prepared to work to flexible hours on occasions to meet the needs of our customers
  • Prepared to work away from the office when required
    • Ability to keep all equipment clean and protected and have awareness of faults and calibration issues
  • Good inventory keeping
  • Ability to adhere to Health and Safety and ISO Requirements
  • Ability to work to method statements
  • Good communication skills, especially with site providers and other Engineers
  • Must be clean tidy and presentable
  • Computer literacy is essential

 

Recent graduates will also be considered for the position as training will be provided.
